Family Photo Outfit Guide

Meet the Roose family.

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing them for years now. Not only is mama phenomenal, but so are her people! These 4 are always SUCH a joy, even dad. On top of being so well dressed (every single time!) The Arizona sunset really showed up for them. Sunset family sessions in the Arizona desert are always so magical. I’ve been all over the world and nothing is quite like our desert scenery.

When planning your family session it’s important to remember a few things.

-Always make sure that you are comfortable in your clothing. It won’t matter if they are all the most picture-perfect outfits ever if you are uncomfortable in the outfit. It will absolutely show in your photos!

-Incorporating prints and different fabric textures is a must. However, you do not want to overdo this. As you can see in the Roose family’s outfits, Mom is in a gorgeous print that pulls colors from her husband, daughter, and son’s outfit. Her daughter is in a cream dress paired with a jean jacket. I absolutely love that!

-SHOES MATTER! I promise you, they will make or break your outfit. If your kiddos absolutely will not give up the neon light-up shoes – I totally understand. However, I always recommend trying to have solid color, non-tennis shoes for your session. Here are a few examples of inexpensive shoes that would be a great and simple addition to so many outfits. If you’re ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask us.

-Dress for the temperature. And in Arizona – it’s pretty much always warm. I know the winter and fall can be so tempting to pack on those layers. However, if you pack them on and we have a 90-degree October day – you are going to be MISERABLE – and sweaty. No one wants that – so be sure to check the weather! If you’re wanting to be cute for fall – opt for a cute cardigan that can be removed if it’s too hot.

– Most importantly – BE YOURSELVES! If you aren’t super-duper fancy people, don’t dress that way in a session. It’s okay to be casual. It’s also okay to dress ALL out. We have so many wonderful ways to help you plan this, including a client closet. Which is filled with outfits for the whole family. When you’re ready to book your session we will walk you through all of it!
