Phoenix Mothers Day Mini Sessions

Mom and daughter during mothers day photos

Mother’s Day mini sessions are one of my favorite sessions I host. I have the honor of getting to watch Phoenix moms grow their family and cherish their babies. Truthfully – it is the best part of my job. This year I offered mother’s day mini sessions in studio and outside. Which is a first! BOTH sessions ended up being hits and sold out. I got so many requests for them I had to open up more days! Here is how I built my outside sunset Mothers Day Mini Sessions. If you’re looking for a mini session you can find all of my current availability HERE.

How to style Mothers Day Mini Sessions

This is the most asked question I get. Where do I get my drapes, how do I piece things together. While I already had everything in my photography studio for this session, let’s talk about what you’d need to buy if you didn’t.

The drapes, the MOST requested item! I used these in both of my Mothers Day Mini Sessions. These are drapes I offer in my photography storefront. You can find them in my big cartel shop HERE.

I used twine to hang the drapes to a VERY tall tree. Protip, bring a ladder or step stool. I thought I’d be tall enough on just my stool (I am almost 6′!) but it was still a feat AND I fell. So, learn from me and safety first.

The key to sets like this is not to over do it, but make sure you have enough. I know, that sounds like a riddle.

We want the focus to me mom + kids. Not overly decorated sets. Truthfully, the only time you’ll find a ton of decorations with my sessions are my Christmas mini sessions. Otherwise my sets are generally minimal and timeless. Specially for my Mothers Day Mini Sessions.

Next you’ll want to pair different textures. I used 6 different blankets and layers here. From creams, some stark whites, light browns, etc. I moved them around based off of what my client was wearing and how they’d be posing.

I wanted to tie in a few darker colors, so I used my picnic basket ( purchased at hobby lobby in spring 2026) for a warm brown and then opted to bring my honey oak stool. The key to having a visually appealing set is variety. I want to make sure there is enough but not so much as to distract (another riddle!) from you and your babies during your Phoenix mothers day mini sessions

What to wear for mothers day pictures

While you’ll usually find me screaming to incorporate colors and patterns, this set is one I’d opt to stick with neutrals. Soft textures, soft texture. We want to create a soft environment for your mother’s day mini sessions.

If you’re ever in doubt when you have a session with us – just know you always have access to our client closet and our styling app. One of our favorite tools! If you’re looking to do this as a standalone session to have more time with your family, we can do that too. Just reach out and let’s plan the session of your dreams!
