How to Prepare for your Newborn Session

If you’re reading this you are likely expecting or have a new baby. Congratulations! I am happy you’ve found my little space on the internet.

I’m Shanyn and I specialize in maternity, newborn, and first-year photography. We have a full commercial studio in Mesa. When you book a session with me you have access to my extensive collection of high-end props including wraps, hats, headbands, beds, baskets, buckets, and more! As well as my extensive collection of boutique outfits available for newborns, infants, toddlers – 5t. There are over 75 maternity outfits (and even though I tell myself no more I’m getting packages weekly!) and even outfits for dad + older kids. Your experience is our number TWO priority (your baby’s safety is my number one!)

When preparing for your newborn session (whether it be with me or someone else) you should make sure that the style I shoot is what you are looking for. I cannot change my editing or styling. We are baby-focused and on the moody side of editing. Our newborn sessions include minimal props, monochromatic sets, and emphasis on your new baby. This is what I do best and that is what I want to deliver, the best.

I always send a questionnaire prior to your session. This goes over desired poses, colors, things you’d like to incorporate. I love seeing what you love from my IG or website. I am happy to take inspiration from other photographers but cannot/will not copy their work to a T. I always like to make sure parents know that I cannot guarantee any poses. Babies do what babies do. If they did what we wanted them to do, we would all be well-rested and have a clean house! I make my best effort for must-have poses, but babies comfort and safety is my #1

In regards to safety, I am fully trained and certified. I never work a full newborn session without an assistant. Eyes are ALWAYS on your baby. My studio is also fully insured and both my assistant and I are fully vaccinated. We receive our annual vaccinations as well to keep babes safe. Our studio is steam mopped between each client, outfits, wraps, and backdrops are also washed.

On the day of your session, it is important to plan to be at the studio 15 minutes prior to your session start time. We are on the second floor and if you need assistance with help up, please call us and my assistant can come help. It does get REAL hot in the studio, especially in the summertime, so please dress in layers or bring a change of clothing. When the baby is unwrapped we keep the a/c off to keep them happy. As soon as they are wrapped we will turn that sucker on.

It is important you bring diapers, bottles (or things you need to breastfeed), and a pacifier. Even if you never have used one, it can make our job significantly easier. We do provide water, coffee, la Croix, and sodas at the studio. We also have snacks for hungry mamas (or siblings!)

Each session we offer varies in length and what is included. You can view the options on our pricing page and reach out for a full guide on packages.

After your session, you will receive your proof gallery within 10 business days. You have 5 days to make your selection for digital images + prints. Once you make your selection your final new gallery will be sent within 10 business days. We do offer a rush option for $100 to get you your gallery in 3 business days for your proof and final images. This must be added prior to your session.

We only accept 10 babies a month and typically book 4-5 months in advance. We do occasionally have an opening for a last-minute baby so please reach out if this is the case!

We cannot wait to meet you! If you have any questions we are always happy to answer them.

XO!

Shanyn Nicole
